Global blocks in Cloud Sites offer a powerful way to maintain consistent design and content across multiple pages. When a block is set as global, any changes made to it will automatically reflect wherever it is used throughout the website. This feature is especially useful for elements like headers, footers, contact sections, or promotional banners.
Creating a Global Block
To convert a standard block into a global block:
- Open the Block Settings from the toolbar on the far left of the block.
- Select “Make it Global.”
Once activated, the block will display a blue globe icon in the top-right corner, indicating its global status.
Accessing Global Blocks
Global blocks can be found in the Block Manager under the Global Blocks tab. All previously created global blocks are listed here and can be added to any page.
Setting Display Conditions
To control where a global block appears:
- Open the Block Settings and select Display Conditions.
- Use the condition settings to specify inclusion or exclusion rules:
- Include on specific pages (e.g., Home, About Us, Gallery).
- Include on all pages, with the option to exclude certain pages (e.g., RSVP).
This flexibility ensures that global blocks appear exactly where needed without manual duplication.
Editing Global Blocks
Any changes made to a global block—such as updating background color, content, or styling—will automatically apply to every instance of that block across the site. This centralized control simplifies site-wide updates and ensures design consistency.
De-Linking a Global Block
If a global block needs to be customized on a specific page without affecting other instances:
- Open the Block Settings.
- Toggle off the Global Block setting.
This action converts the block into a regular block, allowing independent edits. Note: Once a block is de-linked, it cannot be re-synced with the original global block.
Ideal Use Cases for Global Blocks
Global blocks are particularly effective for:
- Headers: Assign different headers to specific sections or pages.
- Footers: Maintain consistent footer content across all pages.
- Testimonials: Ensure updates reflect site-wide.
- Coupons and Promotions: Easily manage and update offers across multiple pages.
Removing a Global Block
To fully remove a global block:
- Delete it from the page.
- Navigate to the Block Manager > Global Blocks.
- Locate the saved global block and delete it from the manager to prevent future use.
Global Blocks vs. Saved Blocks
Understanding the difference:
- Saved Blocks: Templates stored for future use. These are not synced across pages and can be customized independently.
- Global Blocks: Synced blocks that update site-wide when edited.
Use saved blocks for reusable layouts that require unique content, and global blocks for elements that must remain consistent across the website.
